UPDATE
Call for papers ![]() Spartak and the editorial board of magazine “Donau” is at the moment working on the publication of a special edition of the magazine “Donau” about the seminar and conference as it has been held in Maastricht. Lectures and workshops will be transformed into texts and articles that will give both a broader view, and more details about cross-border regional cooperation in Eastern and Western Europe. The idea is to abstract and conclude the meaning and outcomes of the seminar “REGIONS IN EUROPE”. Too, this issue will accompany our planned SHORT STUDY VISIT concerning REGIONS IN EUROPE that will take place in October 2009 in Serbia, Kosovo and Macedonia. Participants, lecturers, partners and visitors of the seminar and conference that took place in May in Maastricht are invited to send articles on the topic of regional and cross-border cooperation in Europe. For more information please contact Guido van Hengel: Guido@platformspartak.eu. More information about the publication of the special Donau-issue “REGIONS IN EUROPE” will be available soon on this website. Keep an eye on the website www.donaustroom.eu too. What could be the alternative for national borders in an integrated Europe? From Friday May 8 – one day before the day of Europe – until Sunday May 17 young people from all over the continent will gather in Maastricht to discuss that question. Twenty youngsters from Romania, Italy, Germany, Poland and The Netherlands will have workshops on the topics European diversity, European citizenship and the role and function of European cross-border regions. They will also go on two excursions – one in the local Euregion “Meuse-Rhine”, the other one to Brussels – to talk with policy makers and youth organizations about these matters. On Thursday and Friday the participants will attend a conference on European regions with well-known professors, politicians and other experts. The two-day conference will be divided into four blocks on the following topics: 1. the region as an opportunity; 2. the region as a threat, 3. the European city; 4. Borders of Europe. Participants of the seminar will be given the opportunity to lead interactive workshops on a specific case in one of the blocks. The end of the week will be celebrated dancing together during Spartak’s famous Club Kalashnikov. |
